1. Ask yourself why you are feeling so pressured
When I recently stopped to ask myself why I was overwhelmed and listed off the reasons in my head, it seemed much less overwhelming. It put everything into perspective for me and helped me come back down to reality. Sometimes we can get in the habit of “mental proliferation” this is when you make mountains out of molehills. You know it girlfriend! You do it all the time. Sometimes as a reality check I ask myself, if you got sick tomorrow would any of this matter? The answer is rarely, a yes. Just KEEP IT IN PERSPECTIVE 🙂
2. Make a short list.
Chunk it down, write your list of to do’s and prioritise the top 3. Cross them off when done and give yourself a reward, 5 minutes listening to music, or a walk around the block, a piece of chocolate, or a line of cocaine, (just kidding, not in front of the kids!)
3. Do something that makes you happy.
Sometimes we need a “shot of happy” (I’m not suggesting you move onto intravenous drug use). Light a candle, meditate, call a friend, have a cup of tea, sit in the sun for 5 minutes, touch your toes, stretch, laugh, dance, take a bath, take the kids to the park, above all count your blessings.
4. Jump in and do the next thing, or just do nothing!
Just do one thing at a time, stop thinking about how much else there is to do and just do the next thing on your list, worry about tomorrow, tomorrow. Remember to breathe and be in the moment.
OR – Sometimes just doing nothing, reading a book or chillin in the sun is just the right thing to do, not every day but at least some days. This does not mean children don’t need to be fed and washing up doesn’t need to be done, it just means it doesn’t have to be done RIGHT NOW, right now is down time and instead of WASTING IT feeling guilty, make the most of every minute.
