Desert Stars & Lost Cities of Jordan
Amman ~ Dead Sea ~ Petra ~ Wadi Rum ~ Aqaba ~ Amman
This tour starts and ends in Amman Jordan
Welcome to Jordan — a kingdom so enchanting it has been captivating travellers for thousands of years… and now it’s your turn.
The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan has always had a certain magic about it. Long ago, ancient explorers crossed its lands with wide‑eyed wonder — and today, modern women adventurers are doing exactly the same. This vibrant, welcoming country is full of life, warmth, and charm, ready to sweep you off your feet.
Most people instantly think of Petra when Jordan is mentioned — the legendary rose‑red city carved into the cliffs more than a thousand years ago. And yes, Petra absolutely lives up to its reputation. It’s dramatic, breathtaking, and utterly unforgettable.
But Jordan is so much more than Petra.
This is a land where contrasts blend beautifully — sea and desert, ancient and modern, lively and serene. One day you might be exploring lush, fertile valleys, and the next you could be standing quietly among vast, echoing desert canyons. You can float effortlessly in the Dead Sea, snorkel in the Red Sea’s shimmering coral reefs, or gaze at the stars in Wadi Rum’s otherworldly stillness.
Jordan’s history is as rich as its landscapes. Modern Jordan emerged after the First World War under King Abdullah I, followed by decades of steady leadership under King Hussein. Today, under King Abdullah II, the country remains peaceful, stable, and wonderfully welcoming.
But perhaps the most unforgettable part of Jordan is how it feels.
From the moment you arrive, Jordan wraps itself around you.
Its history isn’t locked away behind museum glass — it surrounds you. Ancient civilisations have left their mark everywhere: in the stones beneath your feet, in time‑worn carvings, and in the warm spirit of the people who proudly keep their heritage alive.
Jordan isn’t merely a place to visit — it’s a place to experience, to feel, and to fall in love with.

Jerash
Often considered Jordan’s second‑most beloved historical site after Petra, Jerash offers an extraordinary window into more than 6,500 years of continuous human history. Its golden era flourished under Roman rule, and today it stands as one of the best‑preserved Roman provincial cities in the world.
Buried for centuries beneath the sand and carefully excavated over the past 70 years, Jerash reveals an impressive example of grand Roman urban design in the Middle East. As you wander through the site, you’ll encounter colonnaded streets, hilltop temples, magnificent theatres, spacious plazas, ceremonial fountains, city gates, and towering stone walls.
Beyond its striking Greco‑Roman exterior, Jerash also reflects a fascinating blend of cultures. Its architecture, religious sites, and inscriptions highlight the merging of two powerful worlds: the Graeco‑Roman traditions of the Mediterranean and the ancient heritage of the Arab Orient.
We will stop for lunch along the way.
In the late afternoon, we return to Amman, giving you time to relax and refresh after a full day of walking and discovery.

South of the Citadel, you can still see the impressive ruins of the Temple of Hercules, along with the remains of the Umayyad Palace. Here, you will also visit the Archaeological Museum, which showcases artefacts from Jordan’s archaeological sites dating from prehistoric times through to the 15th century.
The journey continues with a visit to the Roman Amphitheatre, one of the largest and best‑preserved amphitheatres in the Middle East. Its construction dates back to the early 2nd century AD and reflects the city’s Roman heritage.

Today is Your Spa Day! (Drive time: 1.5 hours)
After breakfast, we depart for the legendary Dead Sea, just over an hour’s drive away. Get ready for a full day of relaxation at one of the world’s most extraordinary natural wonders! Sitting 427 metres below sea level, the Dead Sea is famous for its healing properties, warm sunshine, and dreamy, float‑like‑a‑cork waters.
The moment you step in, you’ll feel the magic—this water is ten times saltier than the ocean and richly infused with minerals like magnesium, potassium, sodium, and bromine. These mineral‑packed waters and the iconic black mud along the shoreline have been attracting visitors for thousands of years. Even Cleopatra and King Herod were known to indulge in its therapeutic bliss!
Slather yourself in the black mud, float effortlessly under the Jordanian sun, and enjoy nature’s most memorable spa experience. Studies show that the unique blend of minerals can boost circulation, soothe arthritis, ease allergies, and leave your skin glowing. *Please note any cuts or would will sting and do not put your head under!
In the afternoon, you might like to book a massage or unwind by the pool. We highly recommend the Hammam in the day spa—the last group absolutely loved it!
Meals: Breakfast & Dinner
Overnight: Dead Sea – Grand East or similar
Depart early today—around 6:00am—as we make our way to one of the world’s most iconic archaeological wonders!
(Drive time: approx. 4 hours)
Today is all about Petra, the legendary “Rose‑Red City” carved into sandstone cliffs by the Nabateans over 2,000 years ago. Did you know Petra is proudly listed as one of the New Seven Wonders of the Modern World? It’s a day you’ll remember forever.
Your adventure begins at the visitor centre, where you’ll start the gentle walk through the Siq—a narrow, twisting gorge with towering red stone walls that guide you towards the moment everyone waits for… your first breathtaking glimpse of the Treasury. Take your time here—this world‑famous façade has been carved directly into the cliff, and standing before it truly feels magical.
From the Treasury, continue exploring Petra’s vast ancient city:
• caves and rock‑cut tombs
• an impressive Roman theatre
• intricately carved façades
• ancient streets and temples
If you’re feeling energetic, you can hike to the High Place of Sacrifice or tackle the unforgettable climb to the Monastery—one of Petra’s most impressive monuments.
The Treasury is roughly a 30‑minute walk from the entrance. There is also an option to take a golf buggy, which we recommend if available, as it can help conserve energy for exploring deeper into Petra—especially the Monastery. Tickets can only be purchased on the day, cost around USD $100 return, and can sell out quickly.
You’ll have until 6:00pm to wander, explore, photograph, and fall in love with this ancient marvel.

Wadi Rum (2‑hour drive)
Welcome to Wadi Rum, a place so breathtaking and timeless it feels like stepping onto another planet. Vast, echoing, and magnificently untouched, this desert wilderness has been sculpted over millions of years by wind and weather—earning the awe of T.E. Lawrence, who famously described it as “vast, echoing and God-like.”
The moment you arrive at your wilderness camp, you’ll understand why Wadi Rum steals the hearts of travellers. The warm hospitality of the local Bedouin people, combined with the sheer beauty of the desert, makes this the perfect place to unwind and reconnect with nature.
Once settled, enjoy an exhilarating 4×4 Jeep Tour through Wadi Rum’s dramatic landscapes, just like the one described in your referenced itineraries. Follow in the footsteps of Lawrence of Arabia and scenes from The Martian as you discover ancient rock carvings, climb soft golden dunes, walk across natural rock bridges, and soak in the endless, magical silence of the desert.
Please note: The 4WD safari is conducted in open‑back Bedouin pickup vehicles.
Once you get back to the camp, for you will be waiting Traditional Campfire Bedouin Dinner (Zarb” -a selection of foods cooked in an oven with hot coals beneath the desert floor) under the stars accompanied by Arabic music.
As evening approaches, the desert transforms into a canvas of warm pinks, ochres, and fiery reds—sunsets here are nothing short of spectacular. Later, fall asleep in your tent under a canopy of stars. The quiet of the desert, the glow of the moon on the sand, and the serenity of this timeless landscape make this night truly unforgettable.

Jordan in April enjoys mild, pleasant spring weather, making it one of the best months to visit. Days are generally warm with temperatures ranging from the mid‑teens to high‑20s °C, while evenings can feel cool—especially in desert regions like Wadi Rum. Rain becomes less common by April, though occasional light showers may still occur, and you can expect plenty of sunshine across most of the country. Making it an ideal time to explore without the intense heat of summer.

Jordan uses Type C, Type D, and Type F power plugs, with a standard voltage of 230V and frequency 50Hz. Type C and F are the same two‑round‑pin European style, while Type D uses three large round pins (less common, but still present in some hotels or older buildings). Most travelers bring a universal travel adapter to ensure compatibility across all socket types.
There are public toilets at most of the sites we visit. Most public toilets throughout the Middle East and Europe require payment to the cleaners so try to keep your coins for this. Where possible use your hotel or the restaurants. Always carry a pack of tissues and hand sanitiser with you.
Please remember to take enough prescribed medication for duration of the tour. Chemists are very easy to access and things such as anti-biotics are generally available over the counter.
A moderate level of fitness is required to enjoy all the sites we visit. Some of the days we are out and about all day you do need to be able to walk up to 7km a day. We cannot unfortunately have women travel with us who require assistance to walk, for example if you use a walking stick you will not be able to enjoy to many of the sites we visit as they are large and can only been seen by walking.
